Am I the only one who felt like January was one of those ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ months? Part of me is struggling to believe that I’m sitting down to write an update on my goals for January 2019. Hell, I’m still struggling with the fact that we’re in 2019 already!
Today, I’m going to be looking over my goals for January 2019 and reflecting on what I achieved, what tools worked for me, and what I need to improve on so I can continue to be my best self in February. Let’s dive right in!
L E A R N I N G
Finish five books // Learn a new task at work // Write notes on four of my university modules.
This was an ‘incomplete’. I did manage to read five books and learn a new task at work, but I didn’t finish writing my college notes. I think I got one module in and then my life got hectic. That tends to happen when you’re trying to juggle one million things!
I wrote about all the books I read in January and the work task I learned was archiving. Super fun, spreadsheet, and data entry oriented fun.

One litre of water per day // Train three times per week // Attempt yoga and meditation twice a week // No technology after 10pm or before 6am // Lights out at 10:30pm // Get my 5+ a day // Hit my step goal (11,000) six days of the week // Try one new recipe a week.
Heck, you have to admire my ambition when it comes to my health and overall wellness. I really wanted January to be my month of ‘new year, new me’ but it just didn’t happen. I did exercise, drink water, eat vegetables and sleep, but it didn’t completely align with the goals I had set out for the month. Fail. I think my focus for February should be flexibility. In my body, and in the way I achieve my goals.

Establish a proper cleaning routine // Establish a sleep routine for my son // Blog twice a week // Save // Declutter our wardrobes.
If you can call panic cleaning everything in one day a ‘routine’ then I can proudly say that I have achieved my home goals. My son has a fantastic sleep routine, I did blog two days a week for most of January, I saved money and I finally dropped our clothes off to a goodwill place.
Seeing all of those ‘partial completions’ would be enough to drive my motivation right into the ground, but you know what? I’ve unlocked the key to how my body and my brain responds to goals. I need it to be a measurable goal (SMART) but I also need my methods to be flexible. Putting the pressure of ‘one litre’ or ‘11,000 steps’ is a lot to put on a person if they’re already juggling seven other things at once.
Confession: I stopped wearing my Fitbit in January because it was giving me anxiety.
It’s all about reframing the goal into a way I want to feel, which is not overwhelming if you happen to miss a day here and there. This is what I’m going to be focussing on for my February 2019 goals.
I want to feel good on the inside and that will reflect in my life too.
Want to know how I know that? I’m currently reading 22 books, but my favourite is A Little Light on the Spiritual Laws by Diana Cooper. It’s a great book if you’re diving into spirituality, self-fulfilling prophecy and fulfillment, and other divine elements.
January was one lesson after another, but that just makes me all the more determined to come out and kill it in February! Who’s with me?
