Coffee Conversations, Vol. 1: Catching Up

Well, it has been a hot minute, hasn’t it?

My last post was at the end of March and then I dropped off the face of the Earth.  I have been staring at this blank page for weeks.  Part of me wants to ignore the blinking cursor and forget this blog.  The other – stronger – part of me knows that isn’t possible.  I crave this creative outlet and human connection outside of my immediate circle of friends.

I want to update you on where I’ve been and what has been happening in my life as if we were sitting down for a coffee date.  So, that’s what we’re doing.  I did this on an old blog of mine and a good friend of mine – Jess – has her own coffee date feature too!

WELCOME TO COFFEE CONVERSATIONS

Grab a cuppa, get settled, and I’ll tell you what you’ve missed!

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE, I WOULD TELL YOU… I have been working my ass off.  At the end of March, work asked me to ‘act up’ in a lead position for a month.  I accepted and loved every second of it.  After my quarter-life crisis, it was the exact thing I needed.  Since then, my new supervisor has started and she is great!  We’re working through a few growing pains as everyone adapts (or re-adapts, in my case!) to their roles and finds their footing in the office.  The last two months have been a whirlwind but it has been a fast-paced lifestyle that I enjoy and, most importantly, thrive in.

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE, I WOULD TELL YOU… I turned 25!  Yeah, don’t know how that happened.  It feels like the last three years have absolutely sped by.  Someone told me that is supposed to happen in your twenties, which I think is a sick joke.  My sister took me to Mexico (the restaurant) for fried chicken, tacos, and baked cheesecake a few days before my birthday.  I don’t get to see my sister that often so it was a real treat.  Plus, ya girl loves fried chicken.  On my birthday, I got a sneaky wine with a friend then headed off somewhere else and had dinner cooked for me!  Chicken and mushroom risotto followed by more wine and an individual chocolate cake.  I guess turning 25 isn’t so bad after all.

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE, I WOULD TELL YOU… I had some Canadian visitors!  My friend – Jess – and her boyfriend came to stay with me for tenish days.  We had a blast exploring downtown Auckland and Coromandel.  I just wish there was more time.  Isn’t that always the case?  We got fried chicken and pizza, tried an escape room and went to a seafood festival, explored a beautiful hidden beach and frolicked around a regional park.  I had the best time and it was the saddest thing to drop them off at the airport at the end of their time here.  We did make tentative plans to see each other again in two years, so watch this space!

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE, I WOULD TELL YOU… I’m on the #projectcomeback bandwagon.  I’ve jumped into the world of YouTube and a lot of people are getting shredded for competitions (Christian Guzman), whipping their postpartum body into shape (Sarah’s Day), and just killing it at life (Grace Fit UK).  The dedication they have to their goals are so, so motivating that I am jumping on #projectcomeback too.  My diet was terrible for the last two months and the effects it has had on my body is apparent.  I’ve lost my muscle, my energy is depleted, my overall fitness has decreased and my sugar cravings are through the roof.  #projectcomeback is going to be full of whole foods and tracking, Nike workouts, and more self-care.

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE, I WOULD TELL YOU… I am looking into studying.  Again.  It’s no secret that I withdrew from my last course.  I enjoyed studying and I like my job right now, but I can’t see myself working in the legal sector forever.  Naturally, I couldn’t justify spending the money on something if I wasn’t 100% committed to it.  Something called me to check the campus’ website again and a specific course caught my eye.  I’m going to keep the topic under wraps for now but I am very excited!!  The new semester starts in June so I have very limited time to figure out if this is something I want to pursue.  I guess you’re just going to have to come back for another update!

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE, I WOULD TELL YOU… I went to a #brunchclub event.  Ironic, considering I haven’t blogged in such a long time.  Our group went to Devon On The Wharf and it was beautiful.  The location itself is stunning but the meal was divine.  I got french toast and a triple shot flat white because, you know, caffeine.  I needed it.  A friend of mine – Angela – blogged allll about it.

And there you have it!

I hope you enjoyed this little life update.  I have missed blogging more than I thought I would.  It was good to step away and reevaluate what I want from myself and from this space but I’m back.  For good.

I hope you had a lovely weekend and did something that made your heart sing.  Let me know a highlight of your time off and we can catch up on what I have missed in your life!
